Thales Pomb Brazilian, b. 1989

Thales Pomb (1989) is a visual artist whose practice focuses on oil painting, exploring the thresholds between the real and the imagined, the material and the spiritual. Born in Brasília, his works engage deeply with the Cerrado biome and the elements that compose the landscape and emotional memory of his place of origin.

In his current research, Thales investigates the concept of the “in-between place” — a transitional space that inhabits the twilight between opposites: light and shadow, life and death, humor and reverence. He seeks to share this twilight as the crack in the world, a space where the observer cannot define whether it is dawn or dusk, and where time becomes undetermined. This dusk, filled with ambiguity, is one of the dimensions that fascinates him most, inviting the viewer to experience this moment of suspended time that his work proposes.

Thales sees his painting as carrying a spiritual light, which veils more than it reveals. The images

unfold over time, at the rhythm of the viewer, with no intention to provide definitive answers or reveal the work in its entirety. The interaction between the colors, which form this light, is a fundamental element in his work, creating a visual experience in constant formation.

With a rich palette of earthy tones that evoke the red earth of the Cerrado, Thales often incorporates figures such as horses and cypress trees, symbols of transition and renewal. His work also explores the landscapes of the Cerrado, a region he has inhabited since childhood and where his parents currently live, in Chapada dos Veadeiros. These elements invite the viewer to enter a zone of doubt and contemplation, distant from literal narratives but close to imagination and the unknown.
